If there is one thing we have realized over the last few days, its that minus 20 weather works great to help speed up your sightseeing. What you might normally take 3-4 hours to see, you tend to visit a bit quicker when you are freezing.
This is what happened during our visit to the forbidden city (where travey managed to get a pic in). After coming up the subway and seeing the famed picture of Mao on the wall at the entrance to the city, we walked into a wind tunnel like none before. Despite the cold, there were still a number of tourists there. Lots of Chinese people, some Russians and what looked like one Italian group.
Once done visiting the city, we walked across to T-Square for some more pics and wind and then quickly made it back to somewhere warm for some coffee and tea.
After being in Beijing for almost a week, you truly do get a sense of China moving forward. There is an air of progress and excitment in the city, and you can see it all around you. From the metro's with e-adds on the actual tunnel walls you see when you go by to the pedestrian streets lined with shops, this is one city on the move. (Cliche I know, but it really fits).
Tomorrow it is off to the Summer Palace. Until next time.
