Biking in Beijing...on ICE

Beijing continues to surprise us, in good ways. On a tip from some Irish people we met at a Quiz night (where we managed to hold our own despite the professional players!) we went to a lake area of the city where people skate and bike and use these sled type things with poles in the winter. The area was great, it had a really local feel to parts of it, and there was bar after bar after bar on the streets surrounding it. Different than home in that many of them were really tiny places that only served drinks. We did manage to catch two live acts, one was really good.

But the highlight of the trip to the area was biking on the lake. You can see them in the picture (a video will follow soon). Takes a second to get used to, but then you fly around the lake and can do 180s and everything. Why don't we have that at home? It was a really fun time, and we would have gone longer if our fingers weren't frozen. But they were, so we left and had a drink at the Reggae Bar! Yup, Beijing has it all.

Tomorrow we are off to the Great Wall.

Ciao
