This morning we spent a few hours at the hectic and busling Egyptian Bazaar also known as Khan el-Khalili. Unlike the Turkish bazaar in Istanbul, it is outside and many locals also shop here for everyday goods like clothes etc... As a tourist, initial prices are always higher for you but the good thing about this bazaar is that you can haggle and haggle we did. The effort paid off as we did get several souviners. We warn you that this is not a relaxing shopping trip as vendors are constantly calling you into their store and a few vendors getting in your way. If you look at something be prepared to be swarmed but that is the way of the market.
This afternoon we caved and went to the Continential Hotel for lunch and drinks. We had a terrific pizza and wine on a terrace overlooking the Nile. It was gorgeous however you couldnt help but notice the honking horns and polluted skyway. Tonight we are being touristy again and going to take a Nile cruise where we have dinner and belly dances to watch. It should be an experience.
Update: the cruise was the biggest rip off of the entire trip yet. So not worth the money, which was more than we had been spending per day in some places. To the place where we booked it credit, they did give us a discount. But for a crappy cruise where the bottled water was 2 times the price of the Intercontinental...eh...I am still mad!
Right now we are in Alexandria. Took the train here. Egypt is dusty! And every building we passed was red brick, half finished with people living in it. Alexandria is nicer, and we are pretty much right on the beach, so its a step up from Cairo. Not sure when we can put some pics up because the internet here is 5 bucks for 20 minutes, and it takes almost that long to upload one pic sometimes!
Ciao for now!
