We have arrived in Alexandria and we have treated ourselves to a stay at a Sheraton Hotel (because we got a good deal on it of course, same price as the cheap hotel we had in cairo!). Unfortunately, the hotel has some very odd rules that one must be aware of. One being that no outside food/drinks are allowed in the hotel period, plus a bag scan upon entry through the doors. We are talking no chips or bottled water. We did have a few drinks and peanuts to snack on in our backpack on arrival they didn't catch. Maybe if I (leigh) carry a backpack we can get more as they do not check the girls that much. The posted signs warn that this restriction is for our own safety, leaving us, at times, feeling like its a school trip with monitors! Still not sure how me bringing in a bottle of water is unsafe??? Its funny though, this small little thing has us feeling like we have lost some freedom (I know, how westernly lame), imagine if we were in North Korea! The internet at the hotel is very hard to access and as such, we are at a local Egyptian hangout where internet is wireless and FREE! Egyptians have Fridays and Saturdays off for their weekends, so being a Thursday night, it is busy.
The weather so far in Alexandria has been breezy to say the least. Definitely not pool/beach weather. We did dip our feet in the Med. Sea and took a short walk on the beach. Tomorrow we are going to see the city's sites including the lighthouse and the oldest library.
