The city is chaotic, loud, and polluted. Cars honk their horns constantly and lanes on the roads are ignored. The only way to cross the roads on foot is to J-walk even with cross walks available as they are not used! Going across 10 lanes of traffic gets my heart pumping! Tons of locals, tourists, and the occassional herd of sheep flood the streets. We dare to say that Cairo has hints of New Delhi, India but nothing even comes close to that city.
Our hotel is in downtown Cairo and we are surprised at how hard it is to find a restaurant on foot. As such, we have eaten at our hotel nearly every meal as the last resort. Food here is extremely cheap however, so we do not mind paying hotel prices! Perhaps in other areas of Cairo finding decent food is easy, but not here near the Archeological Museum.
