About 30 minutes drive out of downtown Chengdu stands one of the coolest places we have visited on the entire trip. The Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research centre allows animal lovers to get really close with the teddy bearish bears.
The facility itself is really well done. The enclosures are big and seem pretty natural. There are babies, cubs, sub-adults and adults at the sight. The sub-adults were definitely the most interesting, somersaulting and playing more than the others, who mainly sat back and munched on the plentiful bamboo.
The centre is informative as well. Staff speak good English, and are able to answer many questions. To date the centre has successfully bred dozens of pandas. Not easy tasks as the females only have a three day window of fertility!
We absolutely loved our time there. Where we found Xi'an was not worth the stopover just to visit the warriors, we would totally recommend anyone coming to China who likes animals to make the effort to visit the Panda centre!
Enjoy the video on the pandas, and stay with through the whole thing, because it’s worth it in the end.
