We are happy to report that Petra lives up to its status as a wonder of the world. Its huge and easily sits among Machu Picchu and Taj Mahal as a must see sight. Yesterday we spent four hours walking around the sights seeing the Siq (gorge), Treasury, High Altar of Sacrifice (was it high! seriously bring your runners), Royal tombs, and the theatre. We were exhausted after our visit and relaxed with a drink at the oldest bar in the world (Cave Bar) dating back some 2000 years before heading back to our hotel. We had to drag ourselves out of bed for dinner, which consisted of falafel, hummus, kebabs, and bread.
Today we go back to Petra to visit the city centre, museums, this pistachio tree that is 400 yrs old, monastery. Then we head back again after dark to see Petra at night, lit by thousands of candles. Honestly, we are going to find it hard to stay awake until 10:30 pm to take the night tour. Considering how hot it is at high noon, it gets surprsingly chilly at night so we will definitely bundle up for tonight.
Pics of Egypt are up on the right.
BTW - Travey isnt in this picture, but stay tuned! Ciao for now!
