Hungary in a nut shell:
An underrated country chalk full of things to do and see such as theatre, opera, museums, wine tours, and cruises. In all honesty, we expected Hungary to be a country we would never return to, but we are already talking about potential trips back to it. Second to Germany, it was our favourite country. We totally recommend it as a vacation.
Best of: Budapest, valley of beautiful women, danube night cruise
Worst of: Memento park (old soviet statues) - probably the worst value site of the trip, local trains
Best meal: Leigh - ricotta and spinach gnocchi, Jarret - Goulash soup
Yes please: Local wines, goulash soup, kifli breads.
No thanks: Number of smokers, sliced bread, and the lack of nacho chips.
Random thought: Why bother with double or queen beds if you are only going to put single bed sheets on them?
Candid confession: Leigh fell down the stairs even before the wine tasting and Jarret burnt his mouth on every bowl of goulash!
Travel tip: It is actually really easy to spend a lot of money in Hungary...an easy way to keep track is to make a small coversion chart and keep it in your pocket. This can help avoid surprises later in the day.
