We say Cologne, they say Koln!

Right now, as you can see above we are in Cologne. Only 2 hours on a fast train from Brussels, but quite a bit different. There are tonnes of restaurants...not sure how they all stay in business. Things in Germany are as efficient as they say. Transit here is awesome, and pretty cheap too. One thing that I wonder about more and more, is why bathrooms are so clean in restaurants/fast food places in other countries and so filthy at home. It is perplexing to say the least. The food in Germany so far is cheaper than Brussels, we have been eating for way less than I thought we would, and its good food too. Less money of food is good, because it leaves us more money for booze! Leigh and I have both found our first foreign hero; the waitress from lunch who walked us through every single thing on the menu, explaining what it was and what people usually eat during the day. We asked her to come to every restaurant with us, but alas, no luck!

Not sure if you guys do this when travelling, but we try to go into supermarkets or grocery stores to see what is different from home (maybe a little weird, but can be neat). Today we walked through a grocery store, and were shocked at the selection and prices. Organic, marine stewardship products were the same price as non-organic things, and the selection was incredible. There were these fish wraps, almost like cheese strings, that came cooked and with seafood sauce to go with it. Trust me, they were cool! We are already excited for the apartment in Berlin to try cooking some of the stuff.

One thing we were unprepared for was the amount of smokers, everywhere. We knew it would be different than home, but didn’t think it would b this bad until we got further east. We go to bed at night thinking we went back in time cause of the smell on you!
In this picture, our unnamed mascot is in front of Cologne`s Dom: huge famous church. We walked up the stairs to the highest point to look out and were too tired to pose, so thankfully he filled in for us.

And for those of you keeping count, I still have not had a sausage! Leigh disagrees, saying the three at McDonalds count!
